Title
The effect of seed priming with microelements (Mn, Zn, B) on germination of barley
(Hordeum vulgare L.)
Authors
Abstract
To evaluate the priming effect of micronutrients on germination of barley varieties of Behrokh, a laboratory study was conducted at the Laboratory of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Guilan. In the experiment to determine the effect of priming with micronutrients such,Bor, manganese and zinc on germination, seeds were separately placed, for 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours in a solution of boric acid (0.008mM), manganese sulfate (0.004mM ) and zinc (0.004mM). The seeds of the desired solution then bringed out and after reducing the moisture content until the initial moisture content, grown in Petri. Results analysis of variance percentage and germination rate showed statistically significant at the 1% level. Results showed that 12 hours of priming with manganese sulfate had a positive impact on the percentage and rate of germination. The highest germination rate and percentage was for manganese sulfate treatment at 12 hours. Lowest rate and percentage was for manganese sulfate treatment at 36 hours. Priming with magnesium sulfate for 12 hours, improved significantly root length, seedling length and seed vigor index. .Average fresh weight, shoot dry weight and shoot was highest in zinc treated for 12 h.
