Title
Investigation of zinc sulfate effect on some physiological characteristics of Plantago ovata under salt stress
Authors
Abstract
To evaluate the effect of zinc on some physiological characteristics of Plantago ovata under salt stress, a pot experiment was conducted in the Faculty of Agriculture of Yasouj University in 2013. This factorial experiment was based on completely randomized design with four replications. Salinity as NaCl with five levels (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM) and zinc as zinc sulfate, with three levels (3.85, 7.7 and 11.55 mM) were selected. Results showed that interaction effect of salinity and zinc on proline and soluble sugars was significant but had not significant effect on percentage of electrolyte leakage and relative water content. Salt treatment led to an increase in the percentage of electrolyte leakage. 150 and 200 mM NaCl treatments have the greatest effect on the percentage of electrolyte leakage and electrolyte leakage under salt stress increased from about 3 to 10 times. In some salinity levels, proline and soluble sugars content were increased by zinc, indicated that zinc can ameliorate the impact of salinity by encouraging osmotic adjustment.
