Title
Grain yield and its components in spring wheat recombinant inbreed lines population under optimum agronomic condition
Authors
Abstract
Achieving maximum grain yield potential is main challenge for wheat breeding program. To approach this
goal, identification of factors controlling grain yield and its components is necessary. To study grain yield
and its components in spring bread wheat, population consisted of 149 recombinant inbreed lines derived
from a cross between Yecora Rojo (early maturing, dwarf cultivar from USA as male parent) and genotype
No. 49 (late maturing, a tall cultivar from Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran, as female parent) along with parental
lines were evaluated using a completely randomized blocks with two replications. The evaluated traits
included grain yield, plant height, number of spikes per m2, 1000 grain weight. Analysis of variance revealed
significant differences among lines for all the studied traits indicating high genetic diversity in the
population. Grain yield in population ranged from 222.8 to 538.8 gr/m2. Line number 139 with 90.73 cm
plant height, 42.37 gr 1000 grain weight, 374 spike per m2 and 10.23 spike length had the maximum grain
yield (538.8 gr/m2). Plant height with 0.41 showed the highest narrow sense heritability among the studied
traits. Number of spike per m2 and 1000 grain weight had the maximum effect on grain yield.
