Title
Evaluation of effects of lead and copper metals on germination and seedling growth of sunflower (Helianthus annus L.)
Authors
Abstract
This study in order to investigate the effect of different levels of Lead and Copper on germination and seedling growth of sunflower was carried out. For this purpose 15, 30, 45 and 60 mg/l of lead and copper was imposed on seeds of this specie. Also distilled water was applied as control treatment. Variance analysis showed that effects of treatments on shoot length, root length, germination percentage, root dry weight, root to shoot ratio and seedling vigour index 1 was significant at 1% level. Also effects of treatments on seedling vigour index 2 were significant in 5% levels. Treatments mean comparison showed that in most traits, with increasing in lead and copper concentration, germination and seedling growth traits decreased. However, lead and copper in 15 ppm concentrations partly been led to stimulating growth and the highest amount of root weight and seedling vigour index were related to these treatments.
