Title
ffect of light and alternating temperatures on seed germination of landraces African rue (Peganum)
Authors
Abstract
Light and temperature are two important invironmental factors that affect germination of weeds seeds. In order to study the effect of light (Light/Dark and darkness) and alternating temperatures (5/15, 10/20, 15/25, 20/30, 25/35C) day/light on seed germination landraces African rue (Peganum harmala), a factorial experiment based on CRD with three replications was condacted at the Research Laboratory of Birjand Faculty of agriculture during autumn 2013. Results showed that maximum germination percentages (97/33%) were occurred at alternating temperature 25/35C that in the light/dark was more than darkness.Minimum germination percentage (8%) were occurred at alternating temperature 5/15C that in the light/dark was lower than darkness. Maximum plumule length (23mm) was recorded at alternating temperature 15/25C that in the darkness was more than light/dark. Unlike plumule length, radical length was not affected by light. Maximum radical length (25/6mm) was recorded at alternating temperature 10/20C that by radical length in temperature 15/25C was not significantly different.
