Title
Agroecological Zoning as Strategy for Sustainable Development
Authors
Abstract
Agroecological zoning is the useful approach for land use planning, land evaluation and agronomic planning. In this study the agroecological characteristics of Borujen watershed was characterized with integration of UNESCO agroclimatic and FAO agroecological approach using with Geographical information system. First the climatic database include of 16 meteorological data that coverd study area was analysed. Informations of landform include of slope, aspects, elevation and relief intensity was created from SRTM DEM in the ArcGIS software environmentsoil. Soil data base is created from semidetailed studied of Charmahal and Bakhtiari basins. In order to climatic parameters zoning, the correlation between climatic parameter and elevation was determined using SAS software, then the climatic layer was created using DEM in ArcGIS environment. Climatic indices was calculated inclouding: growing degree days, aridity index, potential evapotranspiration, length of growing period and freezing period. Agroclimatic zoning is performed base on UNESCO approach. These information layers were integrated using FAO approach. In this study interaction effects between climate and topography was studied in the climate-spatial model using GIS. Result of agroclimatic zoning showed that 64% of study area is semiarid with cold winter and very warm summer, 20.4% is semiarid with cold winter and warm summer and the other is semiarid with very cold winter and moderate summer. Using with agroecological indices, the Borujen watershed was divided in 28 agroecological unites and 3 agricultural regions. The west agricultural region has topographic, climatic and soil constrains for agricultural use, middle agricultural region has topographic and soil constrains and the central agricultural regions has the some limitations of soil. The analysis of climatic indices showed that high restrictions of growth period and freezing duration and growth degree days was observed in west agricultural region.
