Title
Evaluation of allelopathic effects of some crop species on germination and seedling growth and weed
Authors
Abstract
Weed presence within and around agricultural lands cause enormous loss of crop yield and quality. There are many methods for control of these plants. One of them is putting allelopathic in weed management programs. In order to evaluation the allelopathic effects of sugar beet, canola and ephedra on seed germination and growth of purslane (Portulaca oleracea) seedling, an laboratory experiment based on completely randomized design with four replications was done in Shirvan Higher Education complex during
2013. Treatments were: distilled water (as control), aqueous extract concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%and 25% (w/v) of shoot plants. The results showed that the extract of sugar beet, canola and ephedra on traits Portulaca were significant, so that extract of sugar beet and canola had, maximum and minimum inhibitory effect on seed germination of Portulaca oleracea, Extract concentration higher than 10% completely prevented germination of Portulaca oleracea. On the other hand, canola adequates extract stimulates stem length of Portulaca oleracea. So that, stem length of purslane seedlings significantly increased by canola adequate extracts compared to control. Shoot dry weight of purslane seedlings at 5% adequate extract of sugar beet, ephedra and 15% extract of canola increased by 97/8, 100 and 100% respectively compared to control.
