Title
Effect of salinity stress on the morphological traits of Tritipyrum lines and two Wheat cultivars (Alvand and Ghods)
Authors
Abstract
The new third man-made amphiploid cereal, tritipyrum (2n=6x=42, AABBEbEb) is capable of tolerating high
salinity level of NaCl. Tritipyrum is a hybrid of wheat and Thinopyrum bessarabicum, In this study, the effect of
salinity stress on some morphological traits of 13 lines of tritipyrum including Az/b, Cr/b, Ka/b, La/b, St/b,
(Ka/b)(Cr/b)F2, (Ka/b)(Cr/b)F3, (Ka/b)(Cr/b)F5, (Ka/b)(Cr/b)F6, (Ma/b)(Cr/b)F3, (Ma/b)(Cr/b)F4, La(4B/4D)*(b),
(St/b)(Cr/b)F3 and wheat Alvand (salt tolerant) and Ghods (salt sensitive) were investigated. Experiments were
performed in laboratory condition and factorial experiment based on Completely Randomized Design with 3
replications. The factors include 4 salinity levels (0, 80, 160 and 240 mM, NaCl) and (15 genotypes). Results
showed significant difference among 15 genotypes in 4 levels of salinity stress. All genotypes, showed inverse
influence on morphological traits. The results showed that at control condition, all traits (root length, shoot length,
fresh root weight, fresh shoot weigth and dry shoot weigth in wheat (Alvand and Ghods) had the highest average
except germination percentage. Preferred genotyps in salinity stress above 80 mM and among the studied lines are
as follows Alvand, Az/b, La/b, St/b, (Ka/b)(Cr/b)F6 ,Ka/b , (Ka/b)(Cr/b)f5 , ,and La(4B/4D)*b
